The snow can’t stop Foundation Test Group as Cross Hole Sonic Logging testing continues on a new CSX Bridge over Lazelle Road in Columbus, Ohio.

This is an important juncture as the last stages of drilling for the abutments are underway. After several trips over the last 18 months, a quality end product is in sight.

CSL testing uses water filled access tubes to send sonic pulses through the shaft, tracking the speed and strength of the sound wave.

Collecting this data ensures the integrity of drilled shafts by allowing us to detect anomalous zones of concrete that indicate voids, soil inclusions, or stratified concrete.

This was made easier as the contractor, McCrossin Foundations, prepared for cold weather. Shafts were covered in concrete blankets and tubes were filled with an antifreeze/water mixture. Thanks to these actions, tubes did not freeze, and work began right away.

Collaborative efforts between McCrossin Foundations and Foundation Test Group, Inc. adhered to specified criteria for promoting schedule and meeting all stakeholders needs.
