Our extensive experience in shallow and deep foundation design, from residential developments through high rise structures and various transportation projects allows Foundation Test Group, Inc. to provide expert Geotechnical Engineering services for all your project needs! FTG’s engineers and geologists have also been involved in mine development, slope stability, beach nourishment, stormwater management design, pavement design and various retaining wall structures.

Recent project work includes the development of Port Covington in Baltimore, Maryland, educational buildings on the campuses of Morgan State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, coal fired and nuclear power plants in Indiana and Georgia, hi-rise structures in Philadelphia and New Jersey and transportation projects in Maryland and New Jersey. At each of our project sites, FTG utilizes the most state of the art testing possible to refine our solution and provide the most economical, yet desirable foundation solution.

Our goal is to understand all your project needs, while developing simultaneously, a plan to build sound engineering judgment coupled with an innovative approach to meet and exceed the needs of our clients.

Subsurface Investigations

Subsurface investigations are the key site delineation method to determine the engineering solutions required site specifically. These may be facilitated through test borings, rock cores, test pits, cone penetrometer testing (CPT), dilatometer tests (DMT), geoprobes, or geophysical methods such as electrical resistivity, shallow seismic or ground penetrating radar surveys. At FTG we are enhancing our investigations using drones to distinguish otherwise un-identifiable features not readily detected at ground level. At all levels, a multidisciplinary approach of applied engineering and geology is required to meet each site’s individual challenges.

Shallow and Deep Foundation Design

After a site has been fully delineated, shallow and/or deep foundation options are considered based upon the geology, structural loading, groundwater, below grade features and other site or client driven factors. Each step of the design process is a collaborative process with the other engineers, architects and the owner’s representatives. FTG utilizes our ability to think beyond a cookie cutter response to provide a cost effective, site specific design.
