In Prince Georges County, Maryland, FTG routinely provides Special Inspection services as the Geotechnical Inspector of Record (GIR).
One such project is a new self-storage project in Temple Hills, Maryland. In response to conditions encountered during construction, FTG teamed with the Geotechnical Engineer of Record ATC Group of Columbia, Maryland to assist in forging a design solution where overly saturated soils exist. Our team conducted test pits to investigate the soil’s characteristics and behavioral properties as well as to determine the in-situ elevation of groundwater. With the information gathered from the investigation, a solution was designed and implemented to drain the groundwater from the site and design a soil cement reinforcement.
FTG, Inc. also performed inspection of the remediation of deeper elevator pit foundations which were implemented due to overly saturated soil and a high groundwater table.
The purpose of the remediation was to undercut the unsuitable soil for the foundation and provide a stable base for the foundations.
